Stop smoking programme

A 'Stop smoking' programme is intended for people who want to give up smoking. Medicines may be a part of the stop smoking programme.

Reimbursement

Guidance for giving up smoking may also form part of general practitioner care, medical specialist care, obstetric care or psychological care.

You don't qualify for reimbursement for a stop smoking programme if you receive guidance for giving up smoking as a part of integrated care.

Reimbursement under basic health insurance

Under the HollandZorg basic insurance, you qualify for the reimbursement of costs for one stop smoking programme per calendar year. Medicines that will help you giving up smoking will only be reimbursed if they are part of a stop smoking programme.

Statutory personal contribution

You will not pay any statutory personal contribution for the ‘giving up smoking’ programme under the basic insurance.

Policy excess

The Stop Smoking programmes designated by us are listed in the overview Designated care not subject to compulsory excess. The costs therefore do not count towards the compulsory excess.

Who may provide this type of care?

The following care providers are permitted to provide this type of care:

  • a general practitioner who provides the stop smoking programme
  • a care provider who:
    • is registered in the stop smoking quality register
    • delivers the intervention offered in accordance with the stop smoking care module and which complies with the guideline ‘Treatment of Tobacco Addiction and Stop Smoking Support’
  • a care provider for giving up smoking, contracted by us.

Please note: we have not contracted any hospitals for stop smoking programmes. If you receive hospital treatment from a lung specialist in order to give up smoking, medication will not be reimbursed.

Neither have we contracted any mental healthcare institutions for stop smoking programmes. A psychologist or a psychiatrist may give you advice about giving up smoking and prescribe medication, but this medication will not be reimbursed either.

Please note:

The information on this page is a brief outline of the reimbursements. No rights can be derived from this page. You can only derive rights from our insurance conditions 2025.

Maximum rates for a non-contracted care provider

Have you chosen a healthcare provider with whom we have no contract? Then, we will reimburse according to our maximum rates for 2025. If the rate invoiced by the non-contracted care provider is higher than our maximum rates, you will have to pay the difference yourself. You will be able to find contracted care providers with our Care finder.
